  • new computer and 2 games

alright first of all i got a new computer so i can play better games now (if i ever get around to buying them). this is one of the reasons there is such a long gap since my previous post. i deleted most of my links on my other comp so i forgot about xanga, then i forgot my password (still can't remember it but firefox saves it so i'm okay)

swarm assault is a computer game (a smalle one) where own have a bug colony and your objective is to kill all the bugs that aren't yours. of course it wouldn't be fun if your bugs just bit eachother to death so the gave them unrealistic weapons (ladybugs with machineguns, ants with grenades, beetles with mortars etc.) it gets tough on the upper levels (there are 100 levels i think).the price at the original site may not be worth the gameplay value but since it's older it's probably on rapidshare. like alot of games it will play on windows 7 but it will be rainbow colored.
pros: 100 levels and a level editor to make your own levels and lots of different bugs to play with.

cons: no multiplayer, not as advanced as other strategy games, bugs wander around randomly and refuse to stay in place when periodically attacked (inching forward every time they're attacked)

synopsis: i give it a 7/10. its worth a play but 17.95 is a bit much to pay for it on the main site and it doesn't have as many options as other strategy games.

dead frontier is a 2d (mmo?) browser based game. you choose a class (some give stats, some give items, some give items /money)and you start playing. there's a marketplace to buy stuff, a bank, storage area, forums, mission accepting area (all these are 2d on images that send you to a new page when clicked), and then there's where you actually play the game. the game play has multiplayer (3players coop or competitive) and single player. when you kill enough zombies, you gain a level and can spend stat points if you go back to the outpost or barricade a room. most weapons have a stat requirement to use them (you won't be able to afford ownage weapons at first anyway) and there are outpost attacks daily to get you experience (defend a specific area from zombies for 6 minutes and at the end you might get free experience)

pros: lots of weapons to choose from (categories are melee, pistol, machinegun, shotgun, rifle, and grenade launcher), different types of zombies depending on where you are, multiplayer, creepy music, huge world, free (feel free to donate though), boss zombie that randomly spawns (behemoth), they seem to allow multiple accounts and i haven't seen anything that says you can't trade items between them, they plan to make it 3d this year, special item offers if you are the top zombie killer that week, customize your character (everything from a gangster to a crazy homeless guy in tighty-whities), there's a wiki for it (mostly but not completely accurate

cons: there's lag when everybody in multiplayer is shooting (even with my new computer), it runs on flash which i've heard is easy to hack (not a good combination with competitive multiplayer), ingame chat is hard to use while fighting (i'm thinking of using skype if i can get a mic), long load time to play (it's flash remember), adminpwn gives temporary bans for the mention of some games such as zday (a mmofps game in alpha testing), for all the gun fanatics out there, they had to change a bunch of the gun names from real ones to bastardized versions to avoid copyright issues (i do like the chicago typewriter though),in outpost attacks too many people use noob weapons (baseball bats and pistols won't fend off 2 zombies let alone the 5-10 that sometimes rush you at once),

synopsis: i don't see how it matter since it's free anyways and i doubt your time is so precious that you can't waste it if you are looking at my amateur blog. whatever. 8/10 since i hold free games to a different standard than games you pay for.

ps: my main character for deadfrontier is hiccup50074. feel free to ask me questions about the game.

  • i'm going to take a small break from games to talk about the swine flu. everybody is talking about how dangerous it is. it is not that dangerous. the swine flu has killed people but not as much as the normal flu ( http://edition.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/04/28/regular.flu/index.html ) the cdc backs up this claim as well by saying most people recover without hospitalization ( http://www.cdc.gov/H1N1flu/qa.htm ). the only ones in severe danger are people with preexisting conditions that weaken their immune system. you have to think logically before you panic or you get taken advantage of (i'm sure producers of hand sanitizer, hospital face masks, vaccinations, and cleaning supplies lined their pockets since this scare). my grandmother works at a hospital and she says  there are about 10 different h1n1 vaccines available there (though she didn't specify if they were completely different or just from different companies). even when given the information in a packet created by the cdc, certain members of my family refuse to believe these proven facts and remain panicked.

  • flash games

these flash games are some of my favorites of all time. they may not own your life like runescape or halo, but they can occupy a boring evening at the very least

bunny invasion: defend your side of the screen against bunnies coming from the other side. as you defeat bunnies, you get more cash to get better weapons to defeat more bunnies and get more cash. i never beat the first one because it has no save option but allof them are good. there is no download for it as far as i know but they can be found at http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/search/title/bunny%20invasion

last stand: shoot zombies, get allies, get better guns shoot more zombies, try to survive. the sequel (last stand 2) is tougher because there are more zombies so your allies need to stay alive so you can keep up. i can't find a download but last stand and its sequel are available at newgrounds:

    last stand: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/375622
    last stand 2: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/439275

pandemic: imagine you are a germ. your goal is to infect the human race and kill them. they don't lay down and wait to die though. they start unaware and once they realize your existance, they close borders, start quarantine procedures, and begin working on a cure to kill you. from then on it's a race to infect every  nation and kill them. yes, in pandemic you play against the human race as a lower lifeform. sadly this is another game i can't find a download for, but it's free so it doesn't matter.

    pandemic: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/360724
    pandemic 2: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/448950

there you go. 7 games in 1 post. i didn't bother with scores but they are all worth playing and have minimal glitches. the only downside to any of them is they get repetitive but that's the definition of a flash game.

  • 2 fer 1

fallout 2 (as in the sequel to fallout and prequel to fallout 3).  this game has devoured several months of my life. i've barely played it's predecessor, and i have played fallout tactics for a few levels, but i have to say fallout 2 is better than them both based on what i've played. this is one of the few games i've finished (i did seek help but who wouldn't with how big this game is) and i am very happy i purchased it from amazon. most people i know haven't heard of the game (before my era i guess) but everybody has heard of fallout 3 (i wonder why nobody realized there were 2 games before it?) anyway, fo2 is a turn based strategy game based in a post apocalyptic nuclear wasteland where you are trying to save your village from starvation by finding a "Garden of Eden Creation Kit" to make the barren wastes fertile once more.

pros: very large world to play in, lots of weapons to choose from, unique  "S.P.E.C.I.A.L" combat system developed specifically for the fallout series (no character classes because you choose exactly what you're good at), large amounts of cultural references (terminator, star trek, and a few more that i can't remember off the top of my head), non-linear gameplay (aka do shit when you feel like it), what part of post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland isn't awesome in video game form?, lots of npc allies with varying capabilities personalities and races, several different endings (there are different endings for each town depending on what you did there), and tons of mods to download ( http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=category&cat_id=4 ) to keep the game fun.

cons: glitches galore! most can be fixed with patches online ( http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=category&cat_id=4 ) but i'm sure there are a few still out there, i had a problem installing on windows xp. you can probably fix it by installing it on windows 98 and copying the files to disk for an xp computer (i did something similar and got it going), not a kids game. they tried to get the kids out of the uk version to make it less graphic but blowing sombodies face off is still violent, turn based gameplay will undoubtedly annoy some people (not me), sometimes scenery can obstruct the looting of corpses, some weapons are outright useless (the flamer is too heavy, non-auto shotguns have too small of clips, miniguns kill your allies too often, etc), you can level to the point almost nothing is a challenge (gauss rifle, power armor, small guns 100+, and 150+ hp ends most challenge in the game), and myron is really freaking annoying.

synopsis: it's a very good game for people who like rpgs. i give it an 9.3. it owned my life for months so i might be biased, but from what i've seen, alot of people gave it excellent scores when it came out. i can't give a game with so many glitches a perfect score (even if many were fixed it still on occasion has errors) but i will tell you it's a must have for any rpg lover. you should probably check out fallout 1 before you play fallout 2 (even though it seemed fairly self explanatory to me).

i suggest you buy it from amazon/ebay because it isn't freeware, but it is probably on http://rapidlibrary.com/ for you hooligans and ragamuffins who don't care for copyrights and legal repercussions and such.

endless war 3 is a overhead view shooting game that plays through wars such as: vietnam, ww1, ww2, zombies, ww3, iraq war, terrorism and even a campaign based on the fallout franchise.

pros: lots of weapons (over 100 i think), 4 difficulty levels, cheats (all weapons available and slow bullets), customizable controls, lots of blood splatter, 12 different campaigns to play through, a download of only a few megabytes, the ability to command troops, and the ability to change the image quality of the game (for the purpose of reducing lag)

cons: glitches that involve rockets going through walls and infinite ammo for weapons/ammo switching, some levels (particularly the ww3 levels) lag significantly if your computer is old due to the amount of enemies and bullets moving around the screen, the controls for controlling allies is so simple that that they usually die (sometimes they even kill each other because a soldier is in the way of an enemy).

synopsis: i give it a 7.5. the glitches prevent me from giving it a higher score (it could get a 9.0 if it weren't for the rockets through walls thing). the ammo switching/infinite ammo isn't as big a deal because it only happens when you reload and switch simultaniously and switching to another weapon ends it. i usually ignore the allies so the dumb ai doesn't effect me much (unless they shoot me). my computer is good enought to play the game on low quality without significant lag (if you have a frankenstein computer made from goodwill spare parts like i used to have, you might have a problem).
you can download this game for free at www.arcadetown.com
